Le nom est presque aussi imposant que les caractéristiques de cette dernière parution des studios Eagle Dynamics. Le 14 mars dernier, la fameuse société de production russe nous ayant donné, entre autres, les fantastiques simulateurs de vol Su-27 Flanker et plus récemment Lock On et KA-50 Black Shark, a donc lancé en précommande une exceptionnelle extension payante à son module gratuit DCS World.
Cet ajout justifie amplement son prix en proposant rien de moins que les 93 000 Km² de terrain européen nécessaires à recréer les combats terrestres et aériens ayant contribué à la libération de la France occupée. À vous donc les plages du débarquement et les défenses du Mur de l’Atlantique. Le bocage vallonné de Normandie, avec les villes de Caen et Rouen modélisées avec soin, de même que les ports de Cherbourg et du Havre (avant bombardement par vos soins).
Les nouvelles cartes incluent aussi les côtes anglaises, pour faire bonne mesure et permettre une reconstitution en temps réel du D-Day. La météo fait partie intégrante de l’extension et permettra de rejouer à l’envie et à diverses saisons. Les unités, tant terrestres qu’aériennes ou navales sont tout autant impressionnantes, avec des péniches de débarquement LCXVP “Higgins”, des bombardiers B-17G contrôlés par l’IA ou des U-boot allemands.
Bien entendu, les troupes terrestres ne sont pas en manque avec une pléthore d’unités blindées, légères ou lourdes et l’infanterie ad-hoc. Certaines de ces additions, publiées séparément sous l’appellation WWII Assets Pack (voir les vidéos suivantes) sont donc à ajouter pour bénéficier d’une expérience complète. The DCS: Normandy 1944 Map is centred on the World War II battlefield of Normandy, France and is specifically created to depict the period after the D-Day landings and the establishment of several allied airfields in Normandy to support the beachhead breakout in late June 1944. The map measures 267 x 348 kilometres and includes airfields in both Normandy and southern England. The map includes the famous D-Day landing beaches and the “Atlantic Wall”, rolling bocage fields of Normandy, large cities like Caen and Rouen, ports of Cherbourg and Le Havre, and 30 airfields. The map also includes multiple seasons and more detail and accuracy than any previous DCS World map by utilizing new map technologies.
