Next Stop Nippon: Railway Empire ‘Japan’ DLC Out Now

Between cherry blossoms and snow-capped ranges, Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have today announced that Railway Empire – Japan, the ninth DLC for beloved rail tycoon sim, is now available for Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Railway Empire – Japan comes by way of passionate request from the series’ community and widespread fan-base. Windows PC players can plot a detour to the Kalypso Store, Steam, the Epic Games Store or GOG to pick up the expansion while console tycoons can head to the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store to punch their ticket. The DLC will arrive on Nintendo Switch™ at a later date.

Railway Empire – Japan transports the series to late-1800s Japan where an industrial revolution is booming and the people are crying out for a nationwide railway. After the successful restoration of the Meiji rule, the Land of the Rising Sun’s long-term ambition to develop its own modern, nationwide railway network has become a reality and people from formerly feudal regions are yearning to travel to booming metropolises. Players can lay tracks between mountains and hot springs, using foresight, planning and clever strategy to establish a railway network and facilitate the ‘great commute’, moving Japan into a new industrial age.

The original Railway Empire earned praise from critics and fans alike thanks to its compelling mix of trading, rail network management and corporate espionage. Railway Empire – Japan DLC will be the ninth expansion to the rail sim’s expansive geographical roster, previous locations including Australia, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

About Railway Empire – Japan

In Railway Empire, create an elaborate and wide-ranging rail network, purchase over 40 different trains modelled in extraordinary detail, and buy or build railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories and tourist attractions to keep your travel network ahead of the competition. You’ll also need to hire and manage your workforce if you want to ensure an efficient train service, while also developing over 300 technologies ranging from mechanical improvements to the trains themselves to workplace infrastructures and advanced amenities, as you progress through five eras of technological innovation.

However, you can’t just build and research your way to the top – the competition never sleeps! To keep your business on track, you’ll have to survive against up to three rival tycoons. To move up the ladder, you may have to resort to more cutthroat tactics as you attack and sabotage your opponents through raids and industrial espionage.

Additional DLC to date includes: Down Under, Northern Europe, Germany, France, Great Britain and Ireland, Crossing the Andes, The Great Lakes and Mexico.
